WHAT IS BREAD FOR LIFE?

Bread For Life is a community enterprise based in Lewes, East Sussex. Through the ancient arts of farming, milling and baking it supports food aid programmes and small community projects in the UK and abroad.

OUR MISSION/WORK

Bread for Life has a simple mission. We believe that those living on the bread line, for whatever reason, deserve help and respect. By growing ancient varieties of grain and then selling our heritage flour we are able to give to several charities. Our mobile pizzeria donates 10% of sales to those in need. We also support the work of seed banks and experts who are helping with the preservation of heritage grains.

And finally, our warehouse in Lewes is a hub for charitable giving, with regular collection days of the most urgently needed supplies in Greece, Calais and elsewhere.

WHO WE HELP

OUR GRAIN

We blend flour from heritage varieties grown without chemicals and fertilisers with carefully selected grain grown for us by UK farmers we trust, and who are committed to sustainable farming. We include at least 50% genuine heritage grains in all of our flour blends.

We all seek a shift from the industrial GM approach to food production focussed on yield, shelf life speed and price, to a food system that values the environment, quality, taste and health.
